Yes the above method did fix the outlook config situation, well, that is before the system became unusable. But every time i open any application office windows installer starts running i have to click on cancel inorder for the application to come up even office application have same issue. Its goes without saying that you should back up your registry before doing this- which is what this guy advises. The questions I asked were more of a curiosity to see if there might be a blanket way of controlling the repair behaviour with 2 versions of office installed. If you cannot locate the Windows folder, verify that the folder settings on the computer are configured to display hidden files and folders. I did repeat the word registry procedure for excel and it worked correctly. This must be related to some deep or hidden registry error or corrupted file that appears to be extremely hard to pin down. But the same problem happens. Hope someone can solve this Office problem, I tried so man theat that didn't work. Like Solution 1 worked perfectly for me! This is on my own personal Macbook upon which I have installed Windows 7 64b Ultimate retail copy with Apple Boot Camp. It is such a frustrating one to have! If you look in these folders in the Registry, however, it is by no means clear which sub-folders or components it is suggested we modify. In the permissions for Installer dialog box, click Administrators in the Group or user names list, and then make sure that the Full Control permission is set for the Administrators group. We are running office 2003, but do have Sharepoint Designer 2007 also installed on that machine.
I refered the issue to Microsoft Techncial Support, and they were fantastic. Once I had removed all instances pointing to viewer I found that it was then working again.
